David Greening Naval Architect Ltd survey sailing yachts and powerboats throughout the South West and South Coast of England and can usually carry out surveys in Devon and Cornwall at short notice.

Outlined below are a range of services offered, please contact me to discuss your individual requirements and to obtain a written quotation and detailed survey contract.

Pre-Purchase Condition Survey

A typical Pre-Purchase Condition survey report is based on a day of inspection of the craft.  It is unlikely that it will take less time, even for smaller boats. It is possible that vessel with complex systems will take longer.  The items considered (if fitted) will include;

Exterior hull moulding Engine bearers Machinery installations
Cathodic protection Skin fittings (internal) Shaftline (internal)
Skin fittings (external) Keel fastenings (internal) Fuel installation
Gunwhale assembly Deck moulding & deckgear Bilge pumping arrangement
Ballast keel Deck fastenings Freshwater installation
Keel to hull joint (external) Hull/deck joint Sanitation systems
Steering and propulsion Handrails and Stanchions Gas installation
Propeller(s) Ground tackle Heating installation
Shaftline (external) Mooring arrangements Electrical installation
Rudder(s) Davits, boarding ladder, accesses Electronic installations
Rudder bearings Cockpit Safety systems
Interior hull moulding Steering Gear installation Fire fighting and prevention equipment
Bulkheads and bonding Cockpit drainage Interior fitout
Longitudinal stringers Superstructure Chainplates
Transverse frames Windows and portlights Mast step
Transverse floors Ventilation arrangements Masts and spars
Hull fastenings Companionway, doors and hatches Standing rigging
Inner hull structures Engine compartment Sails

Following the inspection, a day is allocated for writing the report.  I aim to provide you with a perceptive and concise condition report which is usually in excess of fifteen pages.  This will be summarized together with a list of recommendations, broken into;

·         Items that should be dealt with as they affect the safe operation of the vessel,

·         Items that should be dealt with within the maintenance programme for the craft and if delayed may result in further deterioration,

·         Items that should be monitored for further deterioration,

·         Improvements that may be considered.

Insurance Condition Survey

Often a client will require a Pre-Purchase Condition Survey for arranging insurance or finance.  For these purposes, a valuation can be made, based upon the survey findings and knowledge of the market.  There is a small additional charge for this service.

Note that a valuation can only be following a full Pre-Purchase Condition Survey.  Please advise prior to the survey that you will require a valuation for insurance or finance purposes.

Hull External Inspection

This will normally report on defects in the condition of the external hull based upon a visual inspection, soundings and moisture content readings from different parts of the hull.  The presence of osmosis is often of concern, however other structural faults are often revealed with this type of survey.

Exterior hull moulding Ballast keel Shaftline (external)
Cathodic protection Keel to hull joint (external) Rudder(s)
Skin fittings (external) Steering and propulsion (external) Rudder bearings (external)
Gunwhale assembly Propeller(s)

By prior arrangement I can carry out a Hull External Inspection and then seek clients instructions whilst on site, as to whether to proceed with a Full Pre-Purchase Condition Survey.

Partial Survey

Most of my clients prefer the lack of ambiguity of either the full Pre-Purchase Condition Survey or the Hull External Inspection, however I am happy to discuss your individual requirements.  For example a Partial Structural Survey can prove satisfactory especially if a client is confident of the condition of the rigging and systems.

As the Hull External Inspection, but extended to report on defects of the external condition of the decks, superstructure and the internal structure of the boat including the keel and rudder attachments (this survey does not consider the condition of any of the rigging, sails, safety equipment, electrical or machinery installations, or any other systems).

Insurance Damage Surveys

I also carry out damage surveys for Marine Underwriters

Payment

As well as payment by cheque we also accept most major credit and debit cards including:
