A degree in Yacht & Powercraft Design at Southampton Institute,
considered as the leading course in this field, together with
working for two the UK's leading yacht builders makes David Greening well
equipped to design your new yacht.
But, as they say, no job is too small.

If you are looking for one-to-one service for a bespoke yacht
project which could range from design implementation to project
management, contact David Greening Naval Architect Ltd.
Why come to David Greening
Naval Architect?
 | I am a graduate of the
Yacht & Powercraft Design BEng (Hons) degree course at Southampton
Institute, this course is world renowned and many of the
worlds leading designers have either attended the course or employ
former graduates. |
 | Having worked as an "in-house"
designer with two of the UK's highest quality boatbuilders I have a
clear idea of what is practical to build and what a craftsman can
achieve. |
 | I run leading yacht design software, whilst continuing to respect traditional
drafting methods. |
 | I
can deliver a complete package, offering more flexibility and going beyond the scope of what may be
considered commercially viable by large design offices. |
Design brief
If you are considering building a one-off or or a
production boat, please allow me to discuss your design brief.
To whet your appetite I have developed three stock designs which could
either be built in strip cedar & epoxy or production built in f.r.p.
 | Electra 29 – a sub 30ft Category A cruising yacht for a family of four |
 | Electra 37 – a fast cruising yacht suitable for IRC racing |
 | Electra 50 – a stylish global cruiser |
I recently designed a National 12
dinghy which was built by Nigel Waller at Woolverstone in kevlar/carbon
sandwich, two more boats of
this design have now been completed. She was well received at the
2001 Sailboat & Windsurf Show at Alexander Palace and is achieving excellent results
including winning championship races.
Fabrication Design
Often you may wish to modify your
yacht, perhaps to include a wind generator pole, a communication mast
for a blue water voyage or modifications to a pushpit or pulpit.
A recent project involved re-keeling a sailing yacht to convert her to
a motor yacht, this included a stability analysis and issuing
detailed drawings to fabricators.
General Arrangements
Alternatively you may wish to
change a layout, often the strength of the yacht relies on
built in structure which must be considered, I can advise on this.
I am also experienced in working alongside boat builders to supply GA's for individual
customer requirements.
